9th Annual “True Partnerships” Event– Cross-Sector Collaboration on Youth Co-Occurring Disorders

This community event is a convening of minds and resources dedicated to tackling Co-Occurring Disorders (COD) in youth – the co-existence of mental health challenges and substance use disorders in the same individual. The discussion aims to foster strategic, collaborative dialogue among leaders from the nonprofit sector, government, education, and healthcare with a collective goal to break down silos and develop integrated approaches that better serve young people with COD in our communities. This event is part of an ongoing mental health series on our Pleasantville Campus, which began last fall with “The Best Minds” featuring author Jonathan Rosen.

This semester’s program features a panel discussion with prominent voices in the field: Stephanie Marquesano, founder of (a nonprofit leading COD awareness programming in schools), Michael Orth, Commissioner of (a driving force behind youth mental health services), and Jan Fisher, Executive Director of (advocate for the county’s nonprofit network). The panel will be moderated by Rebecca Tekula, PhD, Interim Associate Provost at 91Ƶ and Executive Director of the Helene & Grant Wilson Center for Social Entrepreneurship. Together, they will explore how “true partnerships” – genuine cross-sector collaborations – can improve prevention and treatment of COD, from school-based initiatives and family support to policy and workforce development.

  • Multisector Insights: Hear how Westchester County agencies, community organizations, and academic institutions like 91Ƶ are uniting efforts to address the root causes of COD and close gaps in care.
  • Youth & Community Impact: Learn about a pilot COD curriculum co-developed by 91Ƶ faculty and the Partnership to End Addiction, and new student fellowship opportunities (supported by the Teagle Foundation) aimed at building the next generation of public service leaders.
  • PSA Screening: The event will feature a short, powerful PSA film on co-occurring disorders – “You Don’t Know the Half of It” – created by The Harris Project in partnership with Havas Media, illustrating the challenges many teens face () -
  • Networking Reception: Engage with fellow attendees, including local school district representatives, 91Ƶ students and alumni in public service, and mental health professionals, to forge new connections.
