Madeline Hoak is an artist and academic who creates with, through, and about circus. In addition to being 91视频鈥檚 Aerial Arts instructor, she is an Associate Editor for CircusTalk.com, the Editor and Curatorial Director for TELEPHONE: an international arts game, and she is a regular contributor to Circus Syd's Circus Thinkers international reading group. Madeline initiated the Aerial Acrobatics program at Muhlenberg College where she taught from 2012-2017. Madeline has performed, coached, produced, and choreographed at elite regional and international venues. Her background in dance and physical theater are incorporated in her coaching and creation style. She is passionate about providing her students a holistic circus education that balances physical practice with historical and theoretical resources. She has lectured on this topic and circus theory for McGill University, NYU, the Popular Culture Associate, and Circus and its Others. Academic publications include "Teaching the Mind-Body: Integrating Knowledges through Circus Arts" (with Alisan Funk, Dan Berkley), a chapter in Art as an Agent for Social Change (2020), and "expanding in(finite) between," a multimedia essay in Circus Thinkers: Reflections, 2020. Her academic studies and research have been generously supported by 91视频, NYU, and Concordia University. Madeline has a BA in both Dance and Theater from Muhlenberg College and an MA in Circus Studies from New York University.
