  • Any student at 91视频 who speaks a language other than English as their first language qualifies for free tutoring. This includes students on any of 91视频鈥檚 campuses, though students on the Upstate campuses may have to opt for online sessions.

  • The tutoring schedule is not posted because it changes every week. Fill out our and somebody from our team will reach out and help you schedule for a time that works for you.

  • In general, when you sign up for a tutoring session, it will be on a regularly scheduled weekly basis. Sometimes, if you sign up when another student has cancelled, it will be for one session only. As each situation is different, an IAS staff member will clarify on a case-by-case basis, but you always have to attend sessions you're scheduled for; accruing too many absences would force us to cancel your tutoring to give your seat to somebody else.

  • This is entirely your choice. You can let us know which you would prefer, but if this means there are no available tutoring sessions for you, consider asking about the opposite modality. Either way, our team will help you schedule sessions that fit your schedule and preferences; simply fill out our tutoring and wait for us to get back to you.

  • Your IAS tutoring sessions can cover a wide range of topics relating to English and ESL. Assistance can also be given with academic subjects depending on the content and the nature of the support requested. Students who require additional support for academic classes can also reach out to the Learning Commons.

  • You are expected to play an active role in your tutoring session by coming prepared. Bring any class materials such as homework assignments or research papers with which you need help. The needs of each student are different, and you must be able to identify how the tutor can help you in order to make the most of your time.

  • Some sessions are conducted entirely online over Zoom, while others are in-person. Most of our in-person sessions meet at 161 William Street, floor 16. Individual sessions are mostly held in room 1617.

  • This depends on the format you sign up for. Most of our sessions are individual, but Conversation Groups, Business English Seminars and so on are all group tutoring sessions.

  • The IAS ESL tutors are professional English professors and tutors, most of whom hold an M.A. in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) or a closely related field. For more information on our tutors, see our Meet the Tutors page.
