The LGBTQA+ Center offers a variety of leadership positions for 91ÊÓƵ students including the Queer Leader program, student employment, internships, and volunteer opportunities. Students who may not be able to commit to a leadership role are encouraged to stay involved and bring their ideas for future programming to the table. The Center takes a holistic view of leadership and we believe you do not need a formal position to have an impact.
The Queer Leader Program
The Queer Leader program is the LGBTQA+ Center's peer-to-peer education program focused on student leadership and social justice.
Responsibilities include:
- Attending monthly trainings focused on social justice, leadership, and presentation skills on the Center's training materials.
- Facilitating the Center's educational workshops such as Safe(r) Zone and Transgender 101.
Q-Camp
Q-Camp is a weekend-long LGBTQA+ student leadership retreat. It is a partnership of the New York City and Pleasantville LGBTQA+ centers that brings students together to learn about identity, develop leadership skills, build community, and grow as leaders. This retreat occurs at a campground where students spend time outdoors and participate in activities including a hike, campfires, community meals, and programs throughout the weekend.
Student Employment
Student Assistants
The Student Assistant (SA) position is an hourly paid position where students gain experience working in an office, facilitating conversations, and managing events, among other opportunities. While all SAs will learn how to oversee the space and share other responsibilities, students will be placed into one of our SA roles based on their strengths and interests:
- Events and facilitation
- Communications
- Social media and graphic design
- Data and research
Internships and Volunteer Opportunities
Internships
The Center accepts one intern for 10–12 hour per week each semester. This intern will be in charge of watching over the lounge space and swiping people in, will be assigned various projects, and/or will be asked to help with Center events and programs. Semester-long interns will be able to get a glimpse into what running a resource center for a marginalized community is like and will be invited to share any new ideas or events that will contribute to the Center's mission. This internship is available for credit depending on major requirements.
AOK 1/Civic Engagement Volunteer Opportunities
The Center is able to take on up to two 20-hour per semester volunteers to help with the Center events and programming as part of a student's civic engagement requirement.
