The BA in Film and Screen Studies offers a unique combination of critical studies in film and hands-on film and video production that provides students with professional creative experiences and a well-rounded liberal arts education. As a student, you’ll develop a strong foundation in film history, film analysis, and film theory, as well as hands-on exposure to the technological aspects of film production and cinematic storytelling techniques and traditions through the use of professional 16mm film and HD video camera packages, lighting, and studio equipment.

The BA in Film and Screen Studies surveys the analysis of film, its history, and the way it has impacted our world through a unique approach. The program consists of 12 credits of required courses devoted to the analysis of film, the historical development of cinematic traditions and technology, and the artistic and social impact that cinema has had from the early 20th century to the present day.

The remaining elective credits required to complete your degree can be selected from an uncommonly broad range of production and critical studies courses offered by the film and screen studies department as well as other departments and programs, including anthropology, sociology, art, history, Latin American studies, modern languages, and biology. This multi-disciplinary methodology allows you to delve into a variety of approaches to film and tailor your course of study to suit your interests and career goals.

Taking advantage of 91ÊÓƵ’s tremendously successful Career Services office, you can pursue internships in film production, film festivals, television, journalism, publicity, internet companies, and many other related arenas. Companies at which FSS students have interned include: Oxygen Network, Tribeca Film Festival, MTV, Atlantic Records, Film Society of Lincoln Center, Comedy Central, BBC America, Tribeca Productions, 3 Arts Entertainment, Captured Time Productions, and Killer Films.
