With a PhD in School Psychology from 91ÊÓƵ’s Dyson College of Arts and Sciences, you’ll be equipped with the tools to address the complex needs of children and adolescents in diverse educational and healthcare settings. This STEM-designated program emphasizes a scientist-practitioner model, integrating specialized coursework with practical training that includes one year of cognitive-behavioral practicum at the McShane Center and four additional years of supervised fieldwork in schools, clinics, and community organizations.
With a focus on evidence-based interventions, program development, and research, students collaborate closely with faculty mentors to tailor their academic journey to fit career goals. Graduates are also well-prepared for New York State certification and licensure as psychologists, opening doors to impactful careers in schools, integrated health centers, and academic institutions.
Striving for excellence as a professional training program, it is fully intended that this new PhD Program will attain contingent-APA accreditation status, and ultimately, full APA accreditation status.

Curriculum
The PhD in School Psychology curriculum carefully and sequentially develops competencies through an integrated framework that combines scientific and professional coursework with practicum and other fieldwork experiences.

Competency Based Training
91ÊÓƵ’s PhD in School Psychology program is designed to provide education and training in school psychology within a scientist-practitioner model.
As a student, you’ll be required to complete one year of on-site supervised cognitive-behavioral practicum experience through 91ÊÓƵ’s Thomas J. McShane Center for Psychological Services. You’ll also undertake four years of additional supervised fieldwork experience, including school and clinic or community placements that involve training in assessment, consultation, remedial interventions, psychotherapeutic interventions, and program development and research. Further, you’ll be required to complete a dissertation, a scholarly undertaking in the area of school psychology, which may be in the form of original research, a program evaluation, or another project of a scholarly nature approved by the dissertation committee.
What You Need to Know
Students may undertake the program on a full or part-time basis, but the program must be completed within 10 years. Class hours permit fieldwork and generally allow for limited part-time employment in the first four years of study. A minimum of three years of residency at 91ÊÓƵ is required, including one year of full-time study. Admission is open to qualified holders of a bachelor’s and/or master’s degree from an accredited institution.

- A GRE score report are optional for the 2025-2026 admission cycle. Applicants are welcome to submit GRE scores if you feel this will help your application, but there will be no penalty or disadvantage to you if you do not submit GRE scores.
