Comparative Environmental Law Course

The Brazil Comparative Environmental Law course draws upon the Elisabeth Haub School of Law鈥檚 relationships with top Brazilian universities to give students a unique opportunity to be involved in important international and comparative research. This two credit Spring Semester course is taught by Professor David Cassuto. The class studies the respective environmental regimes of the United States and Brazil and aims to build students' capacity to assess environmental laws and national policies concerning environmental quality.

After choosing a research focus and attending classes on campus, students travel to Brazil over Spring Break to experience first-hand the environmental issues of a rapidly developing country. They meet with prominent scholars, prosecutors and judges in Rio de Janeiro, and visit the fragile, yet crucial, ecosystems of Brazil.
